Alabama’s three largest newspapers urged voters to reject Senate candidate and former Chief Justice Roy Moore on Sunday, arguing his behavior sets a precedent for future elected leaders.

“Do not let this conversation be muddled. This election has become a referendum on whether we will accept this kind of behavior from our leaders,” wrote the editorial board on AL.com.

The website, owned by the Alabama Media Group, represents The Birmingham News, Mobile Press-Register and The Huntsville Times.

Mr. Moore is running as the Republican candidate to fill Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ vacated seat. The candidate has been accused of pursuing sexual relationships with teenagers, one as young as 14 years old, while he was serving as district attorney in his 30s.

Mr. Moore has denied these claims and refused to drop out of the Senate race.

The Alabama Media Group endorsed Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, but did not endorse a presidential candidate in 2012. They did side with Mitt Romney in the Republican primary that year.
