Former LMDC officer convicted for using excessive force on inmate
A federal jury has found a former Louisville Metro Department of Corrections officer guilty of using unlawful force against an inmate.
Evidence of 32-year-old Darrell Taylor was presented in court, showing him on video assaulting an inmate at LMDC. The video shows Taylor throwing and punching the inmate until they were unconscious, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.
It said that Taylor then slammed the inmate face-first into the ground.
The DOJ release did not say when this happened.
LMDC director Jerry Collins testified that Taylor's actions were not in-line with LMDC officer training.
The release said the inmate did not testify but that he sustained serious injuries, including a broken and displaced jaw.
Taylor is facing up to 10 years in prison and will be sentenced in January of 2023.
