Letter: Orrin Hatch will do and say anything to put conservatives on the bench

(AP Photo | Rick Bowmer) U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch discusses Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh during a speech hosted by the Sutherland Institute, Thursday, Aug. 9, 2018, in Salt Lake City.

Recently, the older of the two conservative shills representing Utah in the U.S. Senate (Orrin Hatch) wrote an op-ed in USA Today decrying what he describes as a concerted effort by left-leaning individuals and groups to destroy the character of President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh.

Sen. Hatch should know a thing or two about character assassination; after all, he was one of the leaders of the charge to destroy the character of Anita Hill when she accused Clarence Thomas (the most conservative member of the Supreme Court today) of sexual harassment. In fact, Hatch employed every trick from the book for defending against sexual harassment claims, which others use to this day to put down accusations.

Sen. Hatch not only isn't objective, but is willing to do and say anything to get conservatives into the judiciary. After all, his investment in Justice Thomas paid off. This nominee (nominated by a sexual predator and leader of Sen. Hatch’s party) will be no different.

Here’s hoping Mitt Romney (who will almost surely win in November) will not follow his predecessor’s lead.
